Gérard Le Roux - Painter Sculptor of Saint-Tropez - France

The privileged situation of the gulf of Saint-Tropez - both through the natural shelter it can offer and through the winds and the sea currents leading to that gulf the ships comming from the Eat - made of it the ideal anchorage.
Sarazins and Muslims, Genovese pirates, Spanish or Lybian venturers, a lot of invaders landed at Saint-Tropez, wich finaly entered the peacefull area of the fifties as a fashion resort. Françoise Sagan, Brigitte Bardot, Vadim, Sacha Distel…, and then the entire world wide gotha, actors, singers, productors brought to Saint-Tropez the extraordinary fame it still enjoy. Painters and writers choosed Saint-Tropez as their source of inspiration : Colette, Guy de Maupassant, Eugène Sue… and the painters, Matisse, Maximilien Luce, Albert Marquet, André Dunoyer, Charles Camoin, Jacques Cordier… and of course Gérard Le Roux having created there for 15 years. "Place de la Mairie" is where the painter and his artwork can be met.
